It took the first two weekends of ASUN play but one of Duval County’s members finally got a conference victory.
Jacksonville University had a season-low five turnovers, hit 54 percent from the floor and held West Georgia to only five baskets in the second half in a 75-43 rout at Swisher Gym on Jan. 10.

JU (6-11, 1-3) broke a six-game losing streak, the last three in ASUN games, handed the Wolves (9-7, 3-1) their first conference loss and rudely ended a streak of three games in a row in which West Georgia scored 85 or more points.

The Dolphins started the game on an 18-4 run and never looked back. Freshman guard Hayden Wood made two 3-pointers during the run and after getting only five assists in a loss to Queens earlier in the week, JU’s first four baskets were assisted, with Wood dishing out two.
Sophomore guard Chris Lockett led JU with 18 points off the bench, making six of seven from the floor. Wood and senior forward Jason Thirdkill Jr., had 13 points each and junior forward Donovan Rivers 10. Freshman guard Evan Sterck had six assists and Wood four.

The Dolphins held the Wolves to 27.7 percent shooting in the second half and 35.9 percent for the game and had 10 steals, of West Georgia’s 15 turnovers.
It was a reversal from JU’s 77-51 loss to Queens on Jan. 8. The Dolphins hit only 7 of 22 shots in the first half (31.8 percent) and were only four of 19 from the 3-point arc for the game.
Junior guard Jaylen Jones led with 11 points.
North Florida (2-15, 0-4 ASUN): The Ospreys’ losing streak reached 10 games with an 89-82 loss at UNF Arena to Queens on Jan. 10. It’s the longest skid for UNF since a 20-game losing streak in 2007-08, the year before Matthew Driscoll took over, with current interim coach Bobby Kennen on his staff.
