As we enter Atlantic Coast Conference play here in January, the North Carolina Tar Heels are 13-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Throughout the first 15 games, it’s clear that North Carolina’s two best players are likely in their frontcourt with Caleb Wilson and Henri Veesaar.
And now, one of them is earning some midseason recognition.

On Wednesday, Wilson was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list. He’s one of 25 players to make the list, an update to the preseason watch list released in November.
The award is given annually to the national player of the year and is celebrating 50 years here in 2026. The list comprises of 25 student-athletes who are frontrunners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball: the Wooden Award All-American Team and the Wooden Award Most Outstanding Player.
Wilson is averaging 19.3 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game for the Tar Heels this season. Both lead the team through 15 games. He also became the first freshman in program history to score 20 or more points in six consecutive games.
