Alabama basketball projected as Final Four candidate in latest bracketology

It’s never too early for some bracketology. After starting conference play 1-0, here’s where Alabama basketball stands on the road to March.

In the latest breakdown by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi on January 3, the SEC is projected to have nine bids in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

Alabama (11-3, 1-0) is one of Lunardi’s two Final Four candidates. The other? Vanderbilt, which a top 15 Crimson Tide team faces on Wednesday, January 7 in Nashville.

Before Alabama tipped off its SEC slate with an 89-74 win against Kentucky over the weekend, Lunardi had the Crimson Tide as a No. 3 seed competing in the Midwest region, which also featured top-seed Michigan, No. 2 seed Duke and No. 4 seed Kansas.

In Lunardi’s final bracket prediction of 2025, Lunardi had Alabama competing in the West region as a No. 3 seed among top-seed Arizona, No. 2 seed, Gonzaga and No. 4 seed Illinois. The Crimson Tide faced all three of those teams during nonconference play, only clinching a win over the Fighting Illini at United Center in Chicago.
