Where Kansas basketball lands in latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll

LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball captured a win in its only game during the past week, a 90-61 victory at home against Davidson, and following that is ranked No. 17 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

The Jayhawks (10-3) were also ranked No. 17 last week. So, the last week of play saw no movement for KU in that regard. Coach Bill Self and company are now looking ahead to a game Saturday on the road against UCF, which also represents the start of Big 12 Conference play.

Kansas will enter its Big 12 slate on a four-game winning streak, with victories against Towson at home, NC State on the road and Missouri at a neutral site adding on to the Davidson matchup. Freshman guard Darryn Peterson has missed nine of the Jayhawks’ 13 non-conference games to date due to injury, and his status will be something to monitor in the days ahead. Self’s squad has otherwise been led by the trio of sophomore forward Flory Bidunga, senior guard Melvin Council Jr. and senior guard Tre White.

The Big 12 also features No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 Iowa State, No. 8 Houston and No. 10 BYU in the top 10. Elsewhere in the top 25, is No. 16 Texas Tech. It’s a sign that KU’s Big 12 schedule will challenge the Jayhawks.
