The Pirates will engage in their first Big East game of the season when they meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the AMP. The Friars had three straight victories, including back-to-back victories over in-state rivals Rhode Island (90-71) and Brown (86-79), before they traveled to Indianapolis and lost, 113-110, at Butler on Saturday, Dec. 13. Jason Edwards scored a team-high 32 points for Providence against the Bulldogs, while guard Jaylin Sellers scored 26. Jamier Jones contributed 11 points. Corey Floyd Jr., Stefan Vaaks and Duncan Powell scored 10 points each. Seton Hall’s only loss was a tight one, 83-81, at the University of Southern California on Nov. 25. The Pirates have had four straight victories since. Providence currently holds a slight all-time advantage in the series with a 60-56 record. The teams played two close games last season: The Friars defeated the Pirates, 91-85, in Providence on Jan.11, and Providence secured a narrow 69-67 victory in Newark on Jan. 28.
