Michigan State basketball picked up an important win over Penn State on the road on Saturday afternoon. So what did Spartans head coach Tom Izzo have to say after surviving the upset scare of the conference win?

Michigan State needed to rally late to survive an upset scare from the Nittany Lions, winning by the final score of 76-72 on Saturday. Divine Ugochukwu has a career-high 23 points to help lead the Spartans to the victory.

Here are some of the highlights from what Izzo had to say after the Spartans’ victory over Penn State on Saturday afternoon in Happy Valley:

Izzo said he expected a strong bounce-back performance from Penn State after blowout loss to Indiana earlier in the week

Izzo gave credit to Penn State and head coach Mike Rhoades — states they have a good young team

Izzo said he didn’t think Michigan State played well, but was “proud” of their ability to find a way to win in the end

Izzo felt Penn State outplayed the Spartans most of the game

Izzo said he’s going to “rip their tail” for all of the missed layups by his team in the last two games

Izzo said Jeremy Fears Jr. played well in the second half

Izzo was happy with how well Ugochukwu played offensively, but needs to improve on the other end of the floor defensively

Izzo said he felt that finals week was a factor on the Spartans not playing well against Penn State
