Michigan vs Maryland Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s College Basketball Game

No. 2 Michigan has been the most dominant team in basketball over the last month.

Now that Big Ten play has begun, the Wolverines will look to continue rolling against Maryland for their first road game of the conference schedule.

The Wolverines football team has produced plenty of drama this week, but the Michigan basketball team should be able to avoid it.

Michigan vs Maryland best bet: Michigan -17.5 (-110)

The Michigan Wolverines are 9-0 on the season, including three wins against Quad I teams and three more against Quad II. Starting Thanksgiving week, however, the Wolverines went from being merely great to historically dominant.

Against a challenging field at the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas, Michigan made a shambles of the event, beating San Diego State by 40, then becoming the first team to beat ranked teams by 30 on back-to-back days, hammering No. 21 Auburn and No. 12 Gonzaga by a combined 70-point margin.

The Wolverines haven’t slowed down, winning their Big Ten opener by 41 points over Rutgers and then beating Villanova by 28. They’re the top-rated team by virtually every analytics service.

Michigan has a pair of 7-footers and a wave of 6-foot-7 to 6-foot-9 wings, which give it the best interior game in the country. The Wolverines hit 65% of their two-point shots and allowed just 38% of two-pointers to opponents.

They also block 7.7% of opponents’ shots and rank third in rebounding differential in the country.

That’s a bad matchup for the Maryland Terrapins, which has allowed Gonzaga, Alabama, and Marquette to rebound 39% of their own misses. The Terps have impressive season stats, but they’re inflated against the worst teams on the schedule. 

Against power conference foes, Maryland is 1-4, including 0-3 in Quad I games.
