Syracuse women’s basketball: Orange now projected to make 2026 NCAA Tournament

Fans of Syracuse Orange women’s basketball are receiving some good news for just how well the team has played so far this season.

ESPN’s latest bracketology update currently has the Orange as a “Last Four In” team, according to ESPN’s latest bracketology update, which was released on Tuesday. Syracuse were on the outside looking in to the March Madness conversation to start the 2025-26 campaign.

Syracuse is currently one of eight teams from the ACC projected to make the 2026 NCAA Tournament, good for third-most of all conferences behind the Big Ten (13) and SEC (11). The rest of the ACC teams listed are North Carolina (No. 3), Louisville (No. 6), Notre Dame (No. 5), NC State (No. 7), Stanford (No. 8), Miami (No. 10) and Virginia (Last Four In).

Albeit against just the non-conference slate, the Orange are actually first in the ACC heading into this week. Syracuse is 8-1 on the season and enter its next contest on Wednesday on a three-game winning streak. Its only defeat was a 26-point blowout to then-No. 6 Michigan.

The Orange have wins against Stony Brook, Albany, Canisius, Wagner, Utah, Howard and Auburn. Syracuse also most recently beat SMU by nine on the road in its first game against the ACC.

Of course, the road will get a lot tougher, especially once the full conference slate arrives. Of Syracuse’s 17 remaining games versus the ACC, 11 will be against opponents currently ranked in the top-65 in NET.

The Orange last made the NCAA Tournament in the 2023-24 season with a 24-8 overall record and a 13-5 record against the conference. Currently, Syracuse is projected to 20-9 overall and 10-8 versus the ACC, according to Warren Nolan.

In other good news, one player just made some recent history for the program.

Freshman Uche Izoje just notched her second-straight ACC Rookie of the Week honor, the conference announced Monday. It’s the first time a Syracuse player has done so since Kamilla Cardoso in the 2020-21 season.
