The Wisconsin Badgers took a major step forward last week. After a somewhat disappointing start to the 2025-26 season, headlined by a blowout loss to BYU and a Thanksgiving tournament defeat at the hands of TCU, the team notched decisive wins over Northwestern and Marquette over the last seven days.
The Northwestern win, first, saw backcourt starters John Blackwell and Nick Boyd combine for 46 points, while shooting 15-of-34 from the floor. Their excellent play led the Badgers to a comfortable win, one that the final 12-point margin doesn’t fully portray.

Wisconsin then backed up that performance with a 20-point win over rival Marquette. By no surprise, Blackwell again led the postgame headlines, finishing with 30 points, while shooting 8-of-17 from the field, 6-of-12 from 3 and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line.
The Badgers now have momentum after those two winning performances. While they are yet to reenter the top 25 of either the AP or USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll, the team is on the rise in most rating metrics. The resume-based NCAA NET Rankings are no exception.
