Nebraska remains undefeated after taking down Creighton 71-50

Nebraska men’s basketball (9-0) faced another test this season on Sunday against in-state rival Creighton (5-4). For the second year in a row, the Huskers made a statement win, taking down the Bluejays 71-50.

This makes it 13 straight wins for Nebraska, dating back to last season, and just the fifth time in school history the Huskers achieved that mark.

Nebraska set the tone early, opening up the game with a 15-2 run through the first eight minutes. The Huskers kept the pressure on Creighton from there, never allowing their lead to shrink past six and going up by as much as 27.

Nebraska played efficiently, finishing 24-of-55 from the floor, 10-of-27 from three-point range and 13-of-20 from the free throw line. The Bluejays, meanwhile, shot just 16-of-52 from the floor, 8-of-33 from beyond the arc and 10-of-17 from the foul line.

Rienk Mast scored 20 points to lead the Huskers in the win after going 6-of-12 from the floor, 3-of-5 from three-point range and 5-of-5 from the free throw line. He also hauled in five rebounds and earned two assists. Sam Hoiberg delivered 15 points on the day, shooting 6-of-10 from the floor, 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and 1-of-3 from the foul line, and tallied a team-high five assists.

Pryce Sandfort posted 13 points, hitting 5-of-7 in total and snatching seven rebounds. Berke Büyüktuncel led the Huskers in rebounds, tallying 13 in the win.

Nebraska will continue to be tested over the next two games, with its first two conference opponents coming to Lincoln: Wisconsin and Illinois. The Huskers take on the Badgers on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
