FGCU true freshman Jordan Ellerbee scored the second-most points in program history at Alico Arena Wednesday night.
Unfortunately, the Eagles needed him to set the program record.
Kennesaw State ruined Ellerbee’s near-record 42-point performance as the Owls pulled out a 102-100 overtime win in the final game of the Geico Coconut Hoops event.

FGCU went 2-1 in the Thanksgiving week tournament, beating Oral Roberts and Rice in overtime in their first two games.
“I’m proud of the fight,” FGCU coach Pat Chambers said. “We never gave up. Just one game. We play defense one game, one game we don’t. I feel like today was one of those games we tried to outscore, instead of getting stops.”
Ellerbee did most of the scoring as his effort was second only to Tavian Dunn-Martin, who scored 43 in an overtime road win at Liberty in 2022. The 42 points were an Alico Arena and Coconut Hoops record.
The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles compete against the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in a GEICO Coconut Hoops Tournament Tarpon Bay division game at Alico Arena on Fort Myers, Fla., on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025. Jordan Ellerbee takes a shot.
FGCU (5-3) continued its trend of close contests, relying on Ellerbee to carry the team into overtime. However, when it mattered most, Ellerbee failed to sink several free throws at the end of the second half. As a team, the Eagles missed seven second-half free throws.

“He needs to get a lot better on the defense end,” Chambers said of Ellerbee. “But look, we needed him. We needed every point. He puts the work in. He wants to please so he’ll get upset with himself. From the midst of those free throws, you feel like, ‘God, he put his heart and soul into that game, he put on his back, he put us there.’”
To start the first half, the Eagles shot 0 of 8 from the field, struggling to take advantage of several defensive stops as Kennesaw State (5-2) would go up 8-0. Everything changed once Ellerbee stepped on the floor as back-to-back…
