The Bryant men’s basketball team trailed by just six points late in the contest at Blacksburg, Virginia, but a 15-point performance off the bench from freshman center Christian Gurdak and a pair of key runs led Virginia Tech to a 78-61 nonconference win over the Bulldogs on Wednesday, Nov. 19.
The game result was perhaps as much of a hit with the crowd as the introduction of new Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin at halftime. Gurdak had played just 22 minutes and scored 12 points for Virginia Tech (5-0) coming in. However, with Amani Hansberry out injured and Antonio Dorn ejected in the second half after getting called for two flagrant fouls, Gurdak played 26 minutes, shot 7-for-9 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds. All but two of his points came in the second half.
