UNC becomes one of three college basketball programs to reach historic win mark

UNC entered Tuesday night’s game against Navy a perfect 4-0. The Tar Heels’ 2025-26 roster, complete with 11 new players, is quickly proving itself as a talented bunch.

North Carolina survived a couple scares, pulling away for a 73-61 victory. You might think of Tuesday as just another win, but it was plenty more for a storied program like UNC (5-0).

With the Tar Heels’ Tuesday win, they joined Kentucky and Kansas as the only three programs – in all of college basketball to reach 2,400 victories. Kentucky leads the way with 2,425, while Kansas trails closely behind with 2,417.

Think about how many winning seasons North Carolina had to achieve that elusive, 2,400 mark. UNC is currently playing its 114th season of college basketball, meaning it averages 21 wins per campaign.

The Tar Heels won Tuesday behind a combination of Caleb Wilson domination and strong defense. Wilson threw down several dunks, including a highlight-reel slam that circulated its way across social media. North Carolina also held Navy scoreless for a seven-minute stretch in the second half.

Entering the Fort Myers Tip-Off and an ACC-SEC Challenge matchup with Kentucky, it’s safe to say UNC looks poised for plenty additional victories this season. The Tar Heels are hoping their final victory comes in April, as they search for a seventh NCAA Tournament title.
