FAMU basketball’s three-point shooting not enough in blowout loss to Georgia Bulldogs

Florida A&M men’s basketball had its best three-point shooting performance on the road versus the Georgia Bulldogs.

But it wasn’t enough for the HBCU to get past the Southeastern Conference powerhouse on Monday, Nov. 17.

The Rattlers (0-4) fell to the Bulldogs (5-0) 87-57 in Athens at Stegeman Coliseum.

FAMU made seven of its 20 three-point attempts, a 35 percent rate, compared to Georgia, which made only two out of 26 tries beyond the arc.

Rattlers forward Anquan Boldin Jr. had a game-high 16 points. His teammates Jordan Chatman and Tyler Shirley added 13 points apiece.

Bulldogs forward Jake Wilkins, son of former Georgia star and Basketball Hall of Famer Dominque Wilkins, led his team with 14 points.

Georgia outperformed FAMU in several key areas of the game, including field goal percentage, rebounds, points in the paint, and fastbreak points.

The Rattlers had 25 turnovers compared to the Bulldogs’ 19. FAMU also shot just 14 free throws, making eight, compared to Georgia, which went 29-for-35.

FAMU men’s basketball, under first-year head coach Charlie Ward, has its next game in two weeks.

The Rattlers return to action on Dec. 2 at the Jacksonville Dolphins in Swisher Gymnasium. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
