1. San Diego State

San Diego State is the only team in the MW to have not played at least three games after two weeks. Since we last did our rankings, they beat Long Beach State (by 32) and Idaho State (by 16). Magoon Swath still hasn’t played in a game after recovering from offseason surgery, while Reese Dixon-Waters has played just one. Still, the Aztecs haven’t missed a beat.

2. Utah State

Utah State is one of four unbeaten teams left in the MW. They took care of business against VCU with recent wins over Weber State and UTEP. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi transfer Garry Clark is the presumptive frontrunner for the Sixth Man of the Year, averaging 14.0 points and 10.8 rebounds in 24.8 minutes off the bench.

The best team they have faced was Austin Peay, ranked No. 217 in KenPom. But they’ve handled business, including a 37-point win over Portland over the weekend. Led by Damarion Davis, the Pokes have scored 92 points or more in three of their first four games, too.

5. New Mexico

The Lobos still crack our top-5, despite suffering their first road loss to New Mexico since the 2018-19 season. The eight-point loss was a greater point differential than how the game played out, but…
