Purdue basketball transfer forward added to injury report vs Akron. What we know

WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue basketball will be without a frontcourt depth piece for Sunday’s game against Akron, and possibly longer.

Forward Liam Murphy is listed as out on the Big Ten injury report. Per a team source, Murphy is dealing with a shoulder injury to his shooting shoulder (right) and could miss multiple games. It is not the same shoulder for which he underwent labrum surgery in the offseason.

The North Florida transfer has played backup minutes behind starters Trey Kaufman-Renn and Jack Benter, who started the first two games in place of Kaufman-Renn.

Murphy scored three points in 17 minutes in the season opener against Evansville. He scored 11 points in 10 minutes in a victory over Oakland. He did not play in Thursday’s win at Alabama.

The 6-foot-8 Murphy, who began his career at Columbia, was brought in to add perimeter scoring at the four spot. After Sunday’s game, Purdue next plays against Memphis in the Baha Mar championships at 6 p.m. Thursday.
