Missouri State basketball and Bears coach Cuonzo Martin added size to their roster with the commitment of a junior college big man.
Cameron Boone, at 6-foot-11, 225 pounds, committed to the Bears, according to a report by JUCORecruiting.com. Boone’s juco coaches at Logan A. College (Carterville, Illinois) shared the social media post.
Boone is coming off a season in which he averaged four points and 4.6 rebounds in eight starts and 21 appearances. He shot 55.6% from the field and 56.1% from the free throw line. He only attempted one 3-pointer in his career and had one game this past season in which he scored double digits.
Boone played his high school ball at East St. Louis (Illinois) High School. During his senior year, he was a 46.4% shooter who averaged 4.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 blocks.
With two years of eligibility, Boone would bring needed size to the Bears’ roster when it didn’t have much last season. He immediately becomes the tallest player on the roster. The Bears are banking on Boone’s upside and shot-blocking ability. More size will likely be added in the coming weeks, while the team still has Michael Osei-Bonsu rostered when he played most of the team’s minutes in the post.
Most of Missouri State’s offseason attention has gone to the backcourt so far. The Bears landed Australian point guard prospect Ryder Cheesman on Thursday night and added Missouri Southern transfer Tyrique Brooks’ commitment earlier in the week.
