Former Nebraska basketball and Rhode Island guard Jamarques Lawrence entered the transfer portal on Wednesday. This was confirmed on social media.

Lawrence averaged 9.9 points for the Rams this past season. He shot 41.8% from the field. He also averaged 1.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest. The New Jersey native was a major part of the Rams, averaging 28.8 minutes per game in 31 games overall.

Lawrence transferred to Rhode Island following his sophomore season at Nebraska in 2023-24. In Lincoln, he averaged 6.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game as a point guard.

A hypothetical reunion would be a positive for Nebraska, as they need guard play and someone who can direct the offense. Lawrence could drive to the basket and finish at the rim during his time with the Huskers. That current skill set would benefit a rebuilding program moving forward.

The Nebraska men’s basketball team will continue their postseason run in the semifinals of the College Basketball Crown. They’ll play the Boise State Broncos on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT. The game can be seen on Fox.
