Sam Murray II and Iago Stanback, after one year with the Bears, became the ninth and 10th Missouri State basketball players to enter the transfer portal since the end of the season.
Only three players from last season’s roster remain as Cuonzo Martin prepares a roster reboot heading into the program’s first season in Conference USA.
Michael Osei-Bonsu, Logan Epes, and Zaxton King are the three players who remain from the Bears’ last-place roster last season. Osei-Bonsu and King were every night starters, while Epes contributed meaningful minutes off the bench.
Murray played 23 total minutes and made seven appearances, all of which came in non-conference play. He joined the Bears after spending two seasons at Murray State. He has yet to tap into his potential in three seasons of college ball.
Murray made just one basket on three shots in his appearances. His best game came in a loss to South Dakota State when he scored two points and grabbed three rebounds. He notably played four minutes in the Bears’ season opener at Butler and fouled out.
Stanback took a redshirt this season after joining the Bears out of Naples, Florida, where he was named the state’s 6A Player of the Year.
So far, Missouri State has four newcomers committed to playing in Springfield next season. They include Missouri Southern transfer Tyrique Brooks, freshmen Trey Williams Jr. and Melakih Cunningham, and walk-on freshman Collin Clark.
