Coveted transfer guard commits to Louisville over Tennessee

Tennessee has lost a battle for one of its top basketball transfer portal targets.

Former Virginia guard Isaac McKneely committed to Louisville over the Vols on Thursday. “When you know, you know,” McKneely announced.

Though he committed to Louisville over the Vols, McKneely and the Cardinals are scheduled to play Tennessee at Food City Center on Dec. 16.

Tennessee’s current roster consists of centers and forwards Felix Okpara, J.P. Estrella, Cade Phillips and DeWayne Brown, alongside guards Bishop Boswell, Troy Henderson and Amari Evans.

Despite McKneely committing to Louisville, Tennessee is still pursuing other recent transfer portal entrants.

Tennessee basketball early potential transfers for 2025-26 roster

Ja’Kobi Gillespie

Gillespie has ties to Tennessee in college and high school. He played his first two seasons of college basketball at Belmont and is from Greeneville, Tennessee.

Tennessee is competing with Kentucky, North Carolina, Maryland and Villanova for Gillespie.

Height: 6-foot-1

Weight: 186 pounds

High school: Greeneville High School (Greeneville, Tennessee)

Elyjah Freeman

Small forward Elyjah Freeman played his freshman season at Division II Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate, Tennessee. He averaged 18.9 points and 8.7 points per game, while shooting 45.6 percent from three-point range with the Railsplitters.

Freeman is also drawing attention from Indiana and Kentucky.

High School: Wellington High School (Palm Beach, Florida)

Alvaro Folgueiras

Former Robert Morris forward Alvaro Folgueiras is a target for Tennessee.

He averaged 14.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per contest, while shooting 41.3 percent with the Colonials. Kentucky is also interested in Folgueiras.

Height: 6-foot-9

Weight: 215 pounds

Hometown: Malaga, Spain
