Just hours after his formal introduction as Xavier’s next head coach, Richard Pitino got the ball rolling on his inaugural roster with the Musketeers as one of his former players is on his way to Cincinnati.

New Mexico transfer forward Filip Borovicanin committed to Xavier Tuesday, according to Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.

Borovicanin, a 6-foot-9 forward from Serbia, started 29 of 35 games last season for Pitino’s New Mexico Lobos. He averaged 5.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Borovicanin combined for 12 points and 12 rebounds in two NCAA Tournament games.

He scored in double figures seven times during the regular season, including a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double in a 61-53 road win over Wyoming Jan. 7.

Borovicanin was initially signed as a four-star prospect to Tommy Lloyd’s Arizona Wildcats in the Class of 2022. In two seasons, Borovicanin appeared in 34 games off the bench.

Xavier now has three scholarship players on its roster as Borovicanin joins forward Lassina Traore and guard Roddie Anderson.
