First-year head coach Ben McCollum and Iowa basketball have their second transfer portal addition from elsewhere.
Former Drake guard Kael Combs became the second Bulldog to follow McCollum to Iowa City, announcing his commitment to the Hawkeyes on Wednesday.
The 6-foot-4 guard played in 31 games last season at Drake, averaging 3.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game while shooting 51.1% from the field and 80.0% from the free throw line.
A native of Nixa, Mo., Combs matched his season-high with 13 points in the Bulldogs’ round of 32 NCAA Tournament loss against Texas Tech. Combs also tallied a season-high five rebounds in that contest against the Red Raiders.
Combs also played in 27 games and started one during his freshman season at Wyoming in 2023-24, averaging 2.7 points per game as he shot 48.1% from the field and 33.3% from 3-point range.
Combs joins Bennett Stirtz, who is ranked as the No. 2 player in the transfer portal per On3, and forward Cam Manyawu as former Drake Bulldogs that have committed to the Hawkeyes. Iowa is also bringing back forward Cooper Koch, who entered the transfer portal but chose to return to Iowa.
Here’s a look at Combs’ transfer portal highlights:
