GRAND FORKS — Former UND men’s basketball star Treysen Eaglestaff has committed to South Carolina, his agent confirmed to On3 Sports on Sunday.

Eaglestaff was drawing interest from some of the country’s biggest college basketball brands. Kentucky, Kansas and Alabama were among the many suitors of the 6-foot-6 former Bismarck High standout.

“The coaching staff and how much they believe in me is my biggest thing,” Eaglstaff told 247Sports.com. “The head coach has done most of the recruiting for me, and that’s what gave me the most trust in them. My first call, it was the second day I was in the portal, and he gave me a call. Pretty much my whole recruiting process has been me and coach Paris, and one thing I value most is relationships.”

The Gamecocks were 12-20 last season.

Eaglestaff, who has one season of eligibility remaining, averaged 18.9 points per game for the Fighting Hawks this season.

He had two major performances.

Eaglestaff

dropped 40 points on top-five Alabama

in Grand Forks in December. He also had

a 51-point game

against South Dakota State in the Summit League tournament. It was the most points scored by a Division-I player this season.

Eaglestaff has 1,284 career points at UND as a three-year regular. He was a part-time starter as a freshman, averaging 9.1 points his first season and 14.4 as a sophomore.

He shot 38.3 percent from 3-point range as a sophomore and 35.9 percent as a junior.
