Butler’s Jahmyl Telfort won’t play in Crown tournament

Butler’s best player, Jahmyl Telfort, will not play in The College Basketball Crown tournament.

The senior forward is in Las Vegas but will not be suiting up for the Bulldogs as he prepares for a professional basketball career.

The upstart tournament has NIL benefits for winning teams, but increased NIL was not enough to persuade an outgoing senior against possible injury. To his credit, Telfort played a majority of the season on a banged-up ankle, so his toughness or dedication to the program cannot be questioned.

Telfort was Butler’s leading scorer at 16 points per game. He added 4.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 36% from 3 and 77% from the free throw line. The Montreal native was also the Dawgs best perimeter defender, so Butler will be at a disadvantage heading into The Crown.

The Bulldogs (14-19) open the tournament Monday at 3 p.m. against Utah (16-16).
