Tom Izzo on Michigan State basketball making March Madness Elite Eight

Michigan State men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo reacted to the team’s 73-70 win over Ole Miss in the Sweet 16 round of the 2025 NCAA men’s basketball March Madness tournament.

Michigan State can’t hit the broadside of the barn in the NCAA tournament, and the memes are flying.

The Spartans have succeeded this year in spite of their shooting, hitting just 31.1% on 3-pointers this season but still winning the Big Ten regular season title and making the Elite Eight by being really good at rebounding and defending the 3-point line.

Though the Spartans aren’t known for their shooting, their start to their March Madness game vs. Auburn was horrendous, even for them.

At the under-8 minute timeout, the Spartans had hit just two of 12 attempts, but it definitely felt worse than that. Auburn was flying around on defense, but MSU was still getting open looks and just not converting, most notably one possession where the Spartans got offensive rebound after offensive rebound but could not convert.

Two of MSU’s best shooters, Tre Holloman and Jaden Akins, started the game 0-for-10 combined from the field and 0-for-7 from 3.

With all eyes on the game, the jokes about MSU’s shooting were flying. Here were some of the funniest posts:
