Iowa freshman Cooper Koch is staying at Iowa.

The former Metamora and Peoria Notre Dame all-stater announced Sunday on social media he has taken his name out of the NCAA men’s basketball transfer portal and will return to Iowa for his sophomore season. Koch had entered the portal on March 19.

“After speaking with coach (Ben) McCollum,” Koch posted, “I believe his vison for the men’s basketball team is one that aligns with mine. With that being said, I have decided to withdraw my name from the transfer portal and stay HOME. Go Hawks!”

Iowa hired Ben McCollum from Drake following Fran McCaffery’s firing on March 14.

Koch, a 6-foot-8 forward, appeared in 10 games for the Hawkeyes during his freshman season, averaging 4.6 points and grabbing 2.1 rebounds a game. He shot 42.9 percent from the 3-point field and 48.4 on field goal.
