Colorado State basketball guard Kyan Evans hits transfer portal

Kyan Evans is in the transfer portal after starring in March Madness for the Colorado State men’s basketball team.

The 6-foot-2 point guard averaged 10.6 points and 3.1 assists per game in 2024-25 as a sophomore in his first season as a starter.

Niko Medved departed as CSU’s coach after the season to take over at Minnesota. Assistant Ali Farokhmanesh, who worked closely with Evans in his first two seasons as a Ram, has been named the new head coach.

Sam Kayser of League Ready first reported Evans had entered the portal and now his name is in portal listings on 247Sports and On3. Evans has yet to share any type of portal announcement on social media.

Evans turned heads nationally in the NCAA Tournament. He hit six 3-pointers in a first round win over Memphis, garnering significant attention from other programs.

Evans shot 45% from 3-point range on the season and had at least one 3-pointer in the final 15 games of the season. Evans shot 60% (24-40) from 3-point range over eight games in March as he helped the Rams win the Mountain West tournament and advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Players who enter the transfer portal are allowed to return to their team if both parties see fit, although it is uncommon.

Evans is the first player in the portal from CSU this offseason.
