The Sweet 16 further confirmed the trend of this men’s NCAA Tournament: The higher seeds are dominating the proceedings.
Dramatic, last-second losses by 10-seed Arkansas and 6-seed Ole Miss were the closest we got to having “surprise” entries into the Elite Eight. In fact, 3-seed Texas Tech – which needed a 16-point second-half comeback to get past the Razorbacks – is somehow the only team seeded No. 3 or lower still in the field.
Chalky tournaments can be seen as boring, but these teams were clearly seeded so high for a reason. These eight squads have been dominant over the course of this season and have flexed their muscle when the games have mattered the most. Iron sharpens iron, as they say, and the teams that do make it to the Final Four in San Antonio will have to beat similarly elite programs to get there.
