No. 2 seed Tennessee (30-7) advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight for a second consecutive season. The Vols defeated No. 3 seed Kentucky (24-12), 78-65, Friday in the Sweet 16 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes discussed the Vols’ win after the game.
“Just again, the utmost respect for University of Kentucky and Mark Pope, just great respect all around for that university and him as a person, the program he put together this year ” Barnes said. “Extremely proud of our guys. They beat us twice, and scored, I think they hit 12 threes in both games, and obviously tonight, our number one objective, even though, to be quite honest with you, was the last two games too, but they just they beat us. We guarded the three-point line, and just blessed having these guys every day, how hard they work. I’m just, thank God the fact that I get to spend another day with them.”
Who will Tennessee basketball play in the Elite Eight?
Tennessee will next play No. 1 seed Houston (33-4) on Sunday in Indianapolis. Tipoff between the Vols and Cougars is scheduled for 2:20 p.m. EDT and will be televised by CBS.
