All-SEC Final Four still possible

The story of the year in college basketball and March Madness is the SEC.

The league set an NCAA Tournament record with 14 teams earning a bid, and there are more potential record-breaking marks this weekend.

With four teams in the Elite Eight, all in different regions from the same conference for the first time (per ESPN), the possibility of an all-SEC Final Four is still alive.

March Madness has no guarantees, so there could be zero SEC teams as well in San Antonio for the national semifinals next weekend.

Turning back to the SEC Tournament semifinals two weeks ago, Tennessee faced Alabama and Florida played Auburn in Nashville. Media members teased the doubleheader as a possible Final Four preview.

In reality, those matchups do line up in the bracket as a possibility in what has turned into a chalky NCAA Tournament, driven by the SEC’s dominance among its elite teams. This weekend’s Elite Eight contains all four 1-seeds, three 2-seeds and a 3-seed.

The Elite Eight begins Saturday with Alabama-Duke and Florida-Texas Tech.
