Wisconsin basketball in pursuit of Tarleton State transfer guard Bubu Benjamin, according to a report from recruiting analyst Sam Kayser.

The Badgers were listed as one of many programs to contact the rising junior, along with Big Ten rivals Michigan and Illinois, plus Mississippi State, Creighton, DePaul, Butler, Vanderbilt, Colorado State, VCU, USF, Oregon State, Florida Atlantic, George Washington, High Point, Wyoming and Grand Canyon. Benjamin notably scored 15 points on 5-of-7 from 3-point range in a November loss to the Wolverines. After seeing him play up close, Dusty May’s team is listed among those in pursuit of the transfer guard.

Benjamin entered the transfer portal earlier this month after a standout sophomore season at Tarleton State, during which he averaged 36 minutes, 13.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 44% from the field and 38% from 3.

The Badgers are in search of a proven scoring option on the wing with All-American John Tonje gone to graduation. Benjamin, a 6’7″ guard with versatile scoring ability, would fit that criteria.

Benjamin took a major jump between his first and second seasons at Tarleton State, jumping from 11.7 minutes to 36, 2.8 points to 13.9, 1.7 rebounds to 4.6 and 23% 3-point shooting to 38%. His team went just 12-20 (7-9 WAC) in 2024-25, finishing sixth in the nine-team conference and No. 288 nationally in KenPom.

The promising prospect is looking to make a jump up in competition, while also taking a further step forward in those meaningful statistical categories.

The Badgers are early in their transfer recruiting process. Veteran guard Camren Hunter is the one departure to date. While the program has yet to land a commitment, it already has several reported interests.
