LAWRENCE — Kansas basketball’s offseason seemed to take its first true step forward Friday, with the news that Zach Clemence has entered the transfer portal.
Clemence, a redshirt junior forward this past season, has elected to pursue options elsewhere. A KU official confirmed the decision Friday morning. Clemence’s 2024-25 campaign with the Jayhawks was hindered by injury, and he only played in eight games.
Clemence averaged 5.3 minutes per game across those eight appearances. The last game he played in was a mid-December home game against NC State, which Kansas won. He averaged 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.
This is not the first time Clemence has entered the transfer portal during his career with the Jayhawks. He also did so following the 2022-23 season, before ultimately returning.
The former 247Sports Composite four-star prospect from the 2021 recruiting class, who was a part of KU’s national championship team in 2022, was never truly able to earn much of a consistent role during his time with the program.
Clemence’s likely final season with Kansas saw the Jayhawks finish 21-13 overall and exit in the round of 64 of the NCAA tournament. The campaign ended with a loss in the West region as a No. 7 seed against No. 10-seed Arkansas.
KU coach Bill Self and the team have yet to reach the second weekend of the NCAA tournament since that national title run in 2022.
