BYU Flagrant 1 foul vs Chris Youngblood helps Alabama basketball extend March Madness lead

A Flagrant 1 foul helped Alabama basketball extend its early lead against BYU on Thursday in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament in Newark, New Jersey.

Battling with Alabama forward Chris Youngblood under the basket, BYU forward Keita Keba elbowed Youngblood in the face, a foul that was determined to be after the play. The referee team convened and gave Keba a Flagrant 1 foul.

According to college basketball rules, a Flagrant 1 foul is given on fouls that are deemed “excessive in nature” or “excessive contact but not based on the severity.” If Keba has another flagrant foul, he will be ejected.

Youngblood was given two foul shots – both of which were made – and Alabama was given possession.
