Kansas basketball coach Bill Self talks Arkansas loss in March Madness
Check out everything Kansas basketball coach Bill Self and his players had to say following a NCAA tournament loss in March Madness against Arkansas.
LAWRENCE — KJ Adams’ recovery process from the injury he sustained during Kansas basketball’s NCAA tournament loss against Arkansas is underway.
According to a statement from Jayhawks coach Bill Self on X, the special media platform formerly known as Twitter, Adams had surgery Wednesday to repair his Achilles injury. The injury happened late in the second half of the loss against Arkansas in Providence, Rhode Island. KU finished the season 21-13 after the round of 64 exit.
“KJ had successful surgery this morning to repair his torn Achilles,” Self said in the post. “He is in good spirits. Although this is a big setback, he’ll attack his rehab with his patented toughness and be back on the court as strong as ever.”
Adams was a member of Kansas’ national championship team back during the 2021-22 campaign, which also saw KU win the Big 12 Conference’s regular season and tournament titles. He helped the Jayhawks to another Big 12 regular season crown during the 2022-23 season. Across the four seasons he spent with the program, they made the NCAA tournament each season.
Adams finished the 2024-25 season with 29 starts across 31 appearances while averaging 30 minutes per game. He averaged 9.4 points, five rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. One of his noteworthy performances this season came in what amounted to a loss at home in March against Texas Tech, in which he collected 21 points and 13 rebounds.
