UNC basketball transfer portal: Tracking changes for 2025-26

UNC basketball and head coach Hubert Davis are onto the 2025-26 season as the Tar Heels try to rebuild their roster after losses and gains via the transfer portal.

The transfer portal opened March 24 and the 30-day window will come to a close on April 22. Following a season that saw UNC (23-14) go from a preseason top-10 squad to the NCAA Tournament as a participant in the First Four, the Tar Heels will try to rebound and return to their Final Four standards.

RJ Davis and Jae’Lyn Withers, two starters for the Tar Heels in their March Madness loss to Ole Miss, have exhausted their eligibility. We’ll update this story and UNC’s roster throughout the next month as players make their decisions in college basketball’s version of free agency.

CADEAU: Elliot Cadeau enters transfer portal, which means UNC basketball needs a new point guard

Here’s a look at the UNC basketball players entering the transfer portal. 

Jalen Washington, center

Shortly after Cadeau entered the transfer portal, Washington made the move to continue his career elsewhere. The 6-foot-10 junior spent three seasons with the Tar Heels, averaging 5.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per game this season. Knee injuries hindered his development, starting with missing the first nine games of his freshman year at UNC.

Elliot Cadeau, point guard

A two-year point guard for the Tar Heels, Cadeau served as the primary facilitator and started 68 of 74 games in Chapel Hill. The sophomore had 231 assists this season, but also led the ACC with 113 turnovers and struggled with foul trouble. He reportedly is entering the transfer portal with a “do not contact” designation, meaning Cadeau knows where he’s heading next.
