Memphis basketball guard out vs Colorado State

Memphis basketball guard Dante Harris will not be available for Friday’s March Madness game against Colorado State, coach Penny Hardaway told radio play-by-play man Dave Woloshin.

The 5-seed Tigers (29-5) will give Baraka Okojie his second straight start at guard, Woloshin added during the radio broadcast before tip-off (1 p.m., TBS) against the 12-seed Rams (25-9).

Harris went down with a high ankle sprain on March 4, and he has not played in the four games since then.

Harris and Hardaway have each said recently that the injury is progressing well. The Virginia transfer, who was added to the roster in December and has played in 16 games (one start), was averaging 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds a game (along with 17 assists and 17 steals) before getting hurt.

“Definitely good progress. Definitely been getting better. So, yeah, just hoping to be out there as soon as possible,” Harris said Thursday.

Ruling Harris out comes one day after starting point guard Tyrese Hunter said he would also definitely have to sit out with an injury of his own. Hunter injured his left foot last week in a win over Tulane in the AAC tournament semifinals.
