WATCH: Sean Miller, Freemantle, Conwell, McKnight on NCAA Tournament
Xavier head coach Sean Miller and players discuss the “magical” Selection Sunday moment when the Musketeers were picked for the NCAA Tournament.
The Xavier Musketeers and Illinois Fighting Illini haven’t met in the NCAA tournament ahead of their Round of 64 showdown Friday night in Milwaukee.
Asked by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein for his thoughts about the Illini after the Muskies’ First Four win against Texas, XU head coach Sean Miller replied, “I could care less. I don’t even care. I’m just glad we won.”
The two teams last met during the 2018-19 season in the Maui Invitational tournament 7th-place game, with Xavier defeating Illinois, 83-74, on November 21, 2018.
It was current Illinois head coach Brad Underwood’s second season in Urbana-Champaign. It was Travis Steele’s first of four seasons as XU’s head coach.
Guard Quentin Goodin led the Muskies with 15 points. Ayo Dosunmu had a game-high 19 points for the Fighting Illini.
