NCAA Tournament brackets, predictions for men’s basketball Final Four

The NCAA Tournament is finally here.

No. 1 overall seed Auburn is one of the heavy favorites to win and other SEC teams are expected to do well in the field of 68 teams.

Texas men’s basketball snuck in as a No. 11 seed and has to play Xavier before it can go against the rest of the bracket. Fellow high-major team North Carolina is in a similar situation having to play San Diego State first.

The SEC showed out with 14 teams getting a spot in the bracket. Kentucky, seeded No. 3, has the most NCAA titles of any conference program with eight, followed by Florida with two and Arkansas with one in 1994.

Texas and nine-seed Oklahoma are newcomers to the SEC this year. While the Longhorns dominated in football just as they previously did in the Big 12, they struggled to find their footing in an SEC Conference that was one of the deepest in recent memory.

The sports staff of the Austin American-Statesman all filled out brackets for the men’s tournament. A majority of them chose an SEC champion, but at least one person chose different.

Tony Catalina

Spoiler alert: He’s not the only one who picked Florida. Catalina, the Statesman’s A&M beat writer, watched the Gators dominate the Aggies earlier this month.

David Eckert

Eckert, the Statesman’s Texas Insider, has the Longhorns pulling at least one upset. He also has three SEC teams in the Final Four and an All-SEC national-title game.

Cedric Golden

The Statesman sports columnist is high on the SEC too but his two SEC Final Four teams will meet in a semifinal, setting up … a Florida national championship.

And our lone bracket, so far, without an SEC champion comes from Yum, our sports trending writer. He’s only picking one SEC team to make…
