Any meeting between the Blue Devils and Tar Heels is notable, but this one will come with no shortage of stakes. After wins against Notre Dame and Wake Forest earlier in the tournament, North Carolina may need a victory against Duke to bolster its NCAA Tournament resume, which has had it on the bubble for the past two months. The Tar Heels enter the game with just a 1-11 record in games against Quad 1 opponents in the NCAA’s NET rankings this season.
The Blue Devils swept the regular-season series, winning both games by double digits, but they’ll likely be without freshman phenom Cooper Flagg, who sprained his ankle in a win Thursday against Georgia Tech. Coach Jon Scheyer said Flagg playing in the tournament semifinals would be a “long shot.”
