WATCH: Xavier’s Sean Miller, Ryan Conwell on loss to Marquette
Xavier’s Big East Tournament ended in Thursday’s quarterfinals after an 89-87 loss to Marquette at Madison Square Garden.
The final two minutes were an emotional rollercoaster for Kentucky Wildcats fans in the team’s SEC tournament game against the Oklahoma Sooners.
UK led 78-67 with 1:40 left, but the Wildcats struggled with the Sooners’ pressure, and Jeremiah Fears scored 10 points in the final 80 seconds.
Big Blue Nation was stunned as OU took a one-point lead with six seconds remaining.
But the Wildcats’ Otega Oweh caught the inbound pass, dribbled the length of the floor and won the game with his shot with less than one second left, against the OU team for which he played the past two seasons.
Oweh also made a game-winning shot against the Sooners during the regular season.
“There’s not a lot of human beings walking on the planet actually that can go through those two plays and have that third play,” UK head coach Mark Pope said of Oweh’s game-winner. “It’s just a credit to his character, man, and the character of our team. And I’m really proud of these guys.”
