Wisconsin women’s basketball center Carter McCray and guard Gracie Grzesk entered the transfer portal on Wednesday.
The pair of Badgers follow superstar forward Serah Williams into the portal. The three depart after Wisconsin went 13-17 during a disappointing 2024-25 season, which concluded with a 27-point loss to Iowa in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Coach Marisa Moseley resigned after the season’s conclusion, prompting significant roster movement.
McCray, the 2023-24 Horizon League Freshman of the Year at Northern Kentucky, carved out a role as Wisconsin’s No. 2 option throughout her first season with the Badgers. In 30 games this season, the 6’1” center averaged 10.6 points, 7.1 rebounds and 0.8 assists off 56.7% from the field. The Oberlin, Ohio, native finished in double figures in 17 of Wisconsin’s 30 games, including a 22-point, 11-rebound game against Northwestern to clinch a berth to the conference tournament on Feb. 23. Outside of Williams, McCray was easily Wisconsin’s most important forward this season.
Grzesk, a true freshman from Green Bay, Wisconsin, enjoyed a successful high school career before donning the Wisconsin uniform this season. Although she averaged under five minutes and one point per game with the Badgers, she recently led Notre Dame Academy to three conference championships and three Wisconsin state titles.
