Wisconsin transfer guard A.J. Storr reminded college basketball fans of what he’s capable of on a national stage on Wednesday evening.
Pitted against UCF in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament, the Kansas Jayhawks guard dropped a season-high 19 points to help guide his team to a 98-94 victory. He did so off 7-of-11 shooting from the field, 3-of-5 from the three-point line and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe in 27 minutes of action.
The Rockford, Illinois, native finally put an end to his streak of single-digit scoring performances in one of the Jayhawks’ biggest games of the 2024-25 season. Before Wednesday, Storr had failed to reach 10 points for 13 consecutive games.
To put the former Badger’s struggles into perspective, he combined for just five total points in 17 minutes across his previous three games. He opened the 2024-25 campaign in Lawrence, Kansas, playing 15 minutes or more in 12 of the team’s first 13 games of the season, which even featured a 28-minute output in its signature win over Duke on Nov. 26.
Storr’s role then diminished rapidly, with single-digit minutes in each of Kansas’ final four games of the season. His per-game averages dropped to 5.6 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists in 15.2 minutes per game.
Storr’s up-and-down season follows a terrific 2023-24 campaign with the Badgers. The former St. John’s transfer averaged 16.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 28.8 minutes per appearance as Wisconsin’s clear-cut No. 1 offensive option. That overall performance netted him Second Team All-Big Ten honors.
Storr failed to live up to expectations upon transferring to Kansas. As a result, the NBA hopeful’s draft stock has plummeted. Still, the former Badger can reintroduce himself on a national stage with more outings like his against UCF on Wednesday. Many will forget his in-season struggles if he can lead the Jayhawks on a deep run in March Madness.
Kansas is back on the court on Thursday against Arizona at 8:30 p.m. CT.
