Big Ten Tournament Preview: What you need to know about Oregon’s road to the championship

The college basketball postseason is here, and the Oregon Ducks are playing their best basketball just in time. Things look grim in the middle of February when the Ducks lost five straight conference games and plummeted out of the Top 25, but Oregon snapped back with a seven-game —and counting — win streak.

On Wednesday, the 2025 Big Ten tournament kicks off, and this year, the tournament is using a new bracket format to accommodate the Big Ten’s jump from 14 to 18 teams. It is a single elimination bracket tournament, but the seeding is complex.

The top four seeds (given to the four teams with the best conference records) get byes through the first two rounds. The 5–9 seeds get byes through the first rounds, with the eight and nine teams playing each other, and the first round is made up of the 10–15 seeds. The worst three teams from the regular season don’t make the conference tournament.

Oregon’s tournament kicks off on Thursday, when it, the No. 8 seed, takes on the Indiana Hoosiers, the No. 9 seed. The Ducks beat the Hoosiers, 73–64, earlier this month at Matthew Knight Arena, but the game was tight until the very end. Indiana’s roster is loaded with talent, and if they’re shooters are hot, they can beat any team on any given night.
