The North Carolina Tar Heels find themselves in a similar situation. Going into conference tournament week, the Tar Heels are on the NCAA Tournament bubble and fighting for their lives. And it likely could come down to another game against Duke to decide their fate.
With North Carolina being the No. 5 seed in the ACC Tournament, they will play the winner of Notre Dame and Pitt on Wednesday afternoon. If they win that game, they will play Wake. Win that? Well, Duke looms. And the spot that the Tar Heels are in, they essentially need three wins to get in the NCAA Tournament.
As we get set for conference championship week, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has released his updated Bracketology and the Tar Heels are still in the “first four out” section. UNC is the second team in that section behind Boise State. They are joined by Texas and Colorado State.

Ahead of those teams in the “last four in” are Oklahoma, Indiana, Xavier, and Ohio State. Oklahoma is set to face off against Georgia, Indiana will play Oregon, Xavier will play Marquette and Ohio State will play Iowa. The Tar Heels will need as many of those teams ahead of them to lose early in the conference tournaments.
Boise State will play San Diego State on Thursday.
The bottom line for UNC is that while they could use some help, they really need to win as many games as possible and at least get to that semifinal against Duke.
