Troy men’s basketball uses late surge of offense to claim Sun Belt title over Arkansas State

A late push of offense was just what the doctor ordered.

At least for the Trojans.

The Troy men’s basketball tam, utilizing a hefty run through about three-quarters of the second half, found its offensive stride behind some free throws and some hard-earned layups en route to a 94-81 win over Arkansas State in the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Championship on Monday at the Pensacola Bay Center.

It’s the Trojans’ first title since 2017. With the championship in tow, it’ll also be Troy’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since that same year.

Tayton Conerway led the Trojans on offense with an impressive 21 points points, pushing the string of scoring late in the game. Also getting involved was Thomas Dowd, among others.

While the game started with a tight, physical contest, the teams traded offensive blows for most of the first half into the second frame. Arkansas State led, 43-41, at the half.

With 9:15 left in the game, that’s when Troy’s offense found a second wind and went on a 36-15 run to essentially close out the game.
