Mar. 10—LAS VEGAS — For a third straight season, the Gonzaga women’s basketball team exits the Orleans Arena on the wrong side of a close game.
Kennedie Shuler banked in a jumper through tight defense with 0.8 seconds left to send fourth-seeded Oregon State over top-seeded Gonzaga 63-61 in the semifinals of the West Coast Conference basketball tournament on Monday.
Yvonne Ejim caught a lob on an impounds pass near the hoop on the next possession, but Gonzaga’s all-time leading scorer missed at the buzzer.
Gonzaga (22-10) led by six points with 2:18 remaining, before the Beavers (18-15) scored eight straight to take a 61-59 lead.
With 8.5 seconds remaining in regulation, Ejim drew a foul and made both free throws to tie it. But Oregon State wouldn’t be denied on its final possession.
Ejim and Allie Turner led Gonzaga with 18 points apiece. Catarina Ferreira led OSU with 19.
