After slide extended, here’s how far Missouri basketball dropped in new national rankings

Missouri basketball will not be a top-20 team entering the postseason.

The Tigers dropped three spots in Monday’s updated USA Today Sports Coaches Poll to No. 22 in the country, falling out of the top 20 for the first time since Feb. 10 edition of the rankings.

Mizzou (21-10) has lost three straight games leading into the postseason, including defeats against Oklahoma on Wednesday on the road and against Kentucky in the regular-season finale Saturday at Mizzou Arena. MU has now lost four of its past five games, allowing 90 or more points in each of those losses.

Missouri opens play at the SEC Tournament as the 7-seed in a second-round matchup Thursday in Nashville, Tennessee, against either 10-seeded Mississippi State or 15-seed LSU.

The SEC no longer has the No. 1 or No. 2 team in the country, after Auburn dropped two places to No. 3 following back-to-back losses last week. Duke and Houston were Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.

Florida was No. 4 in the updated coaches poll, and elsewhere in the SEC, Tennessee was No. 6, Alabama was No. 8, Texas A&M was No. 16, Kentucky was No. 19, and Mizzou was the last team from the league in the top 25 at No. 22.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State, which Mizzou may play on Thursday, both were receiving votes.

Two teams from MU’s nonconference schedule were ranked among the top 25, as Memphis checked in at No. 17 and Illinois reentered the rankings at No. 25. Kansas was receiving votes this week.
