The North Carolina Tar Heels, who entered this week’s ACC Tournament as the fifth seed, will now face Notre Dame on Wednesday, March 11 for a 2:30 p.m. tip-off.
Unlike years’ past, where UNC (20-12, 13-7) could rely on an at-large bid to make the NCAA Tournament, UNC needs to win at least a couple games this week. North Carolina faced an extremely grueling non-conference schedule, including the likes of Michigan State, Auburn, Alabama and Florida, but failed to rack up wins.
The Tar Heels don’t have a great outlook at making the Big Dance due to just one Quad 1 victory: December 21, 2024 against UCLA. UNC won six consecutive games heading into Saturday’s loss against archrival Duke, but also experienced a couple bad losses in regular season ACC play, such as Pitt and Stanford.
North Carolina’s bracketology outlook isn’t bad, but it isn’t promising. The Tar Heels are First Four Out in most recent projections we come across, but those can easily change given how other bubble teams perform in their respective conference tournaments.
Can UNC find its mojo in the ACC Tournament? The Fighting Irish (15-17, 8-12) will be hunting for blood, as North Carolina won by one in South Bend, back on January 4. The Tar Heels are a better team overall, but we’re officially in March Madness, so nothing is guaranteed.
Hubert Davis needs to get his guys right for a deep run. UNC can kiss its season goodbye with a loss tomorrow, while a win can be the start of a possible run.
As North Carolina prepares to face Notre Dame, let’s take a look at where North Carolina lands in bracketology for five separate news outlets:

I agree with USA TODAY Sports’ bracketology ranking for the Tar Heels, who have just one Quad 1 victory in a weak ACC. The…
