Purdue basketball is the No. 6 seed in the Big Ten men’s basketball tournament that runs Wednesday, March 12, through Sunday, March 16, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The Boilermakers (21-10 overall, 13-7 in conference) lost five of their final seven regular-season games. Trey Kaufman-Renn, Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer carry a heavy load, combining for 52.3 points, 13.0 rebounds, 12.4 assists in conference games. That’s 66.2% of the scoring, 41.2% of the rebounding and 80% of the assists. C.J. Cox (6.9 points, 3.5 rebounds in Big Ten games) and Caleb Furst (4.7, 4.3) complete the starting lineup.

Purdue will play the late Thursday game between the winner of Wednesday’s game between No. 11 seed Rutgers and No. 14 seed USC. The Boilermakers swept Rutgers (68-50 on Jan. 9; 100-71 on March 4) and defeated USC 90-72 in the regular season.

How does the Big Ten tournament work?

Michigan State won the regular-season championship, and Maryland, Michigan and UCLA join the Spartans in earning double-byes. They can rest until Friday’s quarterfinals.

Teams seeded 5th-9th get one bye and begin play on Thursday. Teams seeded 10th-15th play on Wednesday, the first day of the tournament. The bottom three teams in the standings — Nebraska, Penn State and Washington — do not make the tournament.
