Nebraska to miss the Big Ten Tournament following 83-68 season finale loss to Iowa

Nebraska (17-14, 7-13) and Iowa (16-15, 7-13) clashed in a win-or-go-home matchup for the season finale on Sunday. The winner would punch their ticket to the Big Ten Tournament. Despite the home court advantage and sold-out crowd, the Huskers dropped the finale 83-68.

The Hawkeyes controlled the game, with Nebraska struggling to put points on the board while Iowa couldn’t seem to miss. Though the Huskers stayed close behind the Hawkeyes at halftime, 40-35, they fell behind by as much as 15 in the second half.

Iowa struck from the bench and beyond the arc, delivering 34-non-starter points and landing 11-of-28 from three-point range. The Hawkeyes also finished 31-of-63 from the floor while Nebraska shot 22-of-63. The Huskers did hit 18-of-23 from the free throw line, but it didn’t do much to clean up the mess.

Only two players for Nebraska cracked double digits in points scored while the Hawkeyes finished with four. Juwan Gary led the Huskers, scoring 24 points in his final game in Lincoln. Gary shot 7-of-15 from the floor, 2-of-5 from three-point range and 8-of-9 from the free throw line.

Sam Hoiberg hung up a season-high 12 points in the loss, finishing 3-of-9 from the floor, 2-of-7 from beyond the arc and 4-of-5 from the foul line.

With the Huskers out of the Big Ten Tournament, they await their postseason fate, either in the NIT or the Crown Tournament.
